O que é uma wallet de criptomoedas?

A wallet de criptomoedas é uma carteira onde você armazena, recebe e transfere seus Bitcoins e altcoins. É feita de uma chave privada que apenas o dono pode conhecer. E de uma ou mais chaves públicas, que podem ser divulgadas publicamente. Esta carteira pode ser encontrada como hardware, software ou papel. Cada modelo tem sua usabilidade, mas no final das contas, o mecanismo é o mesmo.

Preciso destacar aqui no começo do texto que:

Se você vai enviar Bitcoins, mande apenas para uma carteira de Bitcoin;
Se for enviar Ethereum, mande apenas para carteira da Ethereum;
Nunca mande tokens ou criptomoedas para uma carteira que não seja daquela Blockchain;
Se você mandar Bitcoin para uma carteira de Litecoin, por exemplo, vai perder todas as suas moedas!

Como funciona uma carteira de Bitcoins?

A carteira (ou “wallet” em inglês), é uma forma de interação com a Blockchain. Ou seja, é a “pontes” entre nós e a Blockchain. Ela é composta por uma chave privada e uma chave pública. A combinação destas chaves revela a localização exata na Blockchain onde as criptomoedas ou token estão.

Chave privada de uma wallet de moedas digitais

A chave privada de uma carteira de criptomoedas é a chave principal. Como se fosse a “senha” para conseguir acessar a wallet. Por isso, deve ser um segredo que apenas o dono conheça. Qualquer pessoa com acesso à chave privada (private key), conseguirá localizar a carteira e transferir os fundos que lá estejam.

🚨 AVISO da vovó

Não anote sua chave privada no computador. Nem em um bloco de notas online ou na sua caixa de e-mail. Muito menos aplicativos de smartphones. Tudo o que pode se conectar à Internet, pode ser atacado e roubado! Portanto, deixa a preguiça de lado e anote sua chave privada em um papel e guarde-o secretamente muito bem!

A chave privada é única para cada carteira e é um código alfanumérico parecido com isso:

Lembra que no texto “O que é Blockchain?” eu disse que antes de um dado ser escrito na Blockchain, ele precisa ser validado? E que essa validação ocorre por meio de cálculos matemáticos? É desta sequência de número e letras que sua carteira obtém a capacidade de enviar seus Bitcoins para outras pessoas. E assim, sua transação é validada.

Você também pode pensar na sua chave privada como as coordenadas secretas para localizar seus Bitcoins. Em outras palavras, quem conhece sua chave privada tem controle total sobre as criptomoedas contidas ali!

Para que serve a private key?

“Jéssica, quando eu vou usar essa bendita chave privada?”

Bom, agora que você já entendeu o que é uma chave privada, vou te falar quando você vai usar. Já entendeu que é com ela que você abre sua carteira, né? Em qualquer lugar do mundo, em qualquer dispositivo.

Vamos supor que você tenha uma wallet no seu smartphone, que assim como eu, usa a Coinomi, por exemplo. E aí, num belo dia de sol, esse seu celular cai na privada (acontece né? 🤷🏻‍♀️). Ainda mais quando você tá tomando aquela brejinha na sexta feira e esquece o celular em cima da mesa do bar.

Enfim, perdeu o smartphone? E sua fortuna em criptomoeda lá dentro na wallet? Perdeu toda a fortuna junto? Seus pais não avisaram que esse negócio de Bitcoin era uma bolha?

Perdeu o celular e agora será que perde as criptomoedas da wallet também? Como recuperar?

Assim como o Bitcoin não é uma bolha, você não perde seus criptoativos só porque perdeu o dispositivo! Isto é, desde que você tenha anotado em um papel sua chave privada!

Neste caso, é só inserir sua chave privada em uma outra wallet, de qualquer dispositivo e aguardar uns minutos. Pronto, seus fundos estarão lá outra vez!

A chave privada também é usada para gerar o endereço da sua carteira, que vamos ver agora que é a chave pública.

Endereço ou chave pública da wallet de criptomoedas

Esse endereço é algo que você passa para as pessoas que querem enviar-lhe Bitcoins. É como se fosse a sua conta de depósito.

O endereço da carteira é bem parecido com a chave privada. Mas não deve ser confundido! Também é um endereço alfanumérico e costuma ser menor que a chave privada. Será parecido com isso:

Esse endereço é o endereço da minha conta na NovaDax, a exchange que eu uso. E veja que não há problema em compartilhar esta chave pública aqui no site. O máximo que vai acontecer é você olhar minhas movimentações. Ou me enviar Bitcoins 💁‍♀️

Esses endereços de carteira são gerados à partir da chave privada. No entanto, não há como descobrir qual é sua chave privada apenas examinando um endereço da wallet.

Inclusive, muitas vezes é difícil para nós mesmos encontrarmos nossa própria chave privada. Ainda bem! Assim não corremos o risco de enviar a chave privada no lugar do endereço! Você vai ver bastante o termo “private key” quando estiver procurando-a.

Para que serve uma carteira de altcoins?

Quando falo de carteira de Bitcoins, wallet de criptomoedas, altcoins, moedas virtuais ou digitais, estou falando da mesma coisa. Afinal, o mecanismo da carteira será igual para qualquer criptomoeda!

Em suma, a função principal da wallet é:

Criar um ou mais endereços públicos;
Armazenamento de criptoativos;
Enviar e receber criptomoedas através da combinação e uso de uma private key com uma chave pública (endereço da carteira).

Em outras palavras, a wallet de criptomoedas automatiza a complexa criptografia do Bitcoin e demais altcoins, para você! Ou seja, facilita o uso da Blockchain, transformando a linguagem de computador em algo que os humanos possam entender.

O que é uma wallet Hierarchical Deterministic?

Bom, vamos concordar que ter que anotar aquele baita endereção alfanumérico da sua chave privada é um saco, né? Uma letrinha, um “A” que você errar ali, já era. O código tem que ser IDÊNTICO!

Além disso, e se você não quiser anotar a private key e sim memorizá-la? Pensa bem, ai sim ninguém consegue te roubar!

O que é a seed da wallet de criptomoedas?

À medida que as carteiras Bitcoin evoluíam, as carteiras HD (hierarchical deterministic), foram criadas. As carteiras HD transformam a chave privada em uma sequência de palavras.

Essa sequência de palavras é conhecida como “seed” (do inglês, semente). Que não passa de uma frase mnemônica.

“Mene… o quê?!”

Mnemônica! É uma frase criada com um conjunto de técnicas de memorização. Exatamente para que seja mais fácil para você lembrar! Esta semente (seed da wallet) é uma série de palavras comuns que você pode memorizar em vez da chave alfanumérica confidencial, longa e confusa.

Se você já tentou criar uma carteira certamente já notou que sempre lhe é pedido para guardar pelo menos 12 palavras aleatórias.

Endereços da wallet de criptomoedas Hierarchical Deterministic

Uma carteira HD pode criar muitos endereços públicos na mesma semente. Então mesmo que você possua 10 endereços públicos, todos os Bitcoins estarão dentro da mesma chave privada.

Particularmente, eu adoro poder fazer essa divisão dentro da carteira. Por exemplo, eu crio um endereço onde eu só armazeno criptomoedas que eu recebo por pagamento dos meus clientes. Em outro endereço, eu coloco moedas virtuais que estou fazendo HODL (eu explico esse termo neste texto). Numa outra carteira, eu deixo as criptos que serão destinadas para algum projeto e assim por diante.

No final das contas, todas as criptomoedas estão dentro da mesma carteira. Basta usar minha seed para abri-la.

What is a crypto wallet?

The cryptocurrency wallet is a wallet where you store, receive and transfer your Bitcoins and altcoins. It is made up of a private key that only the owner can know. And one or more public keys, which can be shared. This wallet can be found as hardware, software or paper. Each model has its usability, but in the end, the mechanism is the same.

I need to highlight here at the beginning of the text that:

If you are going to send Bitcoins, send only to a Bitcoin wallet;
If you are sending Ethereum, send only to Ethereum wallet;
Never send tokens or cryptocurrencies to a wallet that belongs to another Blockchain;
If you send Bitcoin to a Litecoin wallet, for example, you will lose all your coins!

How does a Bitcoin wallet work?

The wallet is a way to interact with Blockchain. That is, it is the “bridges” between us and the Blockchain. It consists of a private key and a public key. The combination of these keys reveals the exact location on the Blockchain where the cryptocurrencies or token are.

Private key of a digital currency wallet

The private key of a crypto wallet is the primary key. As if it were the “password” to be able to access the wallet. So it must be a secret that only the owner knows. Anyone with access to the private key, will be able to locate the wallet and transfer the funds to other person.

🚨 Granny WARNING

Do not write down your private key on the computer. Not in an online notepad or in your email box. Much less smartphone apps. Anything that can connect to the Internet can be attacked and stolen! So let go the laziness and write down your private key on paper and keep it in secret very well!

The private key is unique for each wallet and is an alphanumeric code that looks like this:

Remember that in the text “What is Blockchain?” I said that before data is written on Blockchain, it needs to be validated? And that this validation occurs through mathematical calculations? It is from this sequence of numbers and letters that your wallet gets the ability to send your Bitcoins to other people. After those calculations, your transaction is validated.

You can also think of your private key as the secret coordinates for locating your Bitcoins. In other words, anyone who knows your private key has complete control over the cryptocurrencies contained there!

What is the private key for?

“Jessica, when am I going to use the private key?”

Well, now that you understand what a private key is, I’ll tell you when you’re going to use it. You understand that you open your wallet with it, right? Anywhere in the world, on any device.

Let’s suppose you have a wallet on your smartphone, which, like me, uses Coinomi, for example. And then, on a beautiful sunny day, your cell phone falls on the toilet (it happens right? 🤷🏻‍♀️). Even more when you are taking that beer on Friday and forget your cell phone on the bar table.

Anyway, lost your smartphone? And your cryptocurrency fortune in the wallet? Lost all your fortune? Didn’t your parents warn you that this Bitcoin business was a bubble? They told you!

Lost your cell phone and now do you lose wallet cryptocurrencies too? How to recover?

Just as Bitcoin is not a bubble, you don’t lose your crypto just because you lost your device! That is, as long as you write down your private key!

In this case, just insert your private key into another wallet, from any device and wait a few minutes. There, your funds will be there again!

The private key is also used to generate your wallet address, which we will now see as the public key.

Crypto wallet address or public key

This address is something that you share with people who want to send you Bitcoins. It’s like your deposit account.

The wallet address is very similar to the private key. But it should not be confused! It is also an alphanumeric address and is usually smaller than the private key. It will look like this (below the QR code):

This address is the address of my Binance account. And see that it’s okay to share this public key here on the site. The most that will happen is that you look at my transactions or send me Bitcoins 💁‍♀️

These wallet addresses are generated from the private key. However, there is no way to find your private key just by looking at a wallet address.

In fact, it is often difficult for us to find our own private key. Good! So we don’t run the risk of sending the private key instead of the address!

What is an crypto wallet for?

When I talk about Bitcoin wallets, cryptocurrency wallets, altcoins, virtual or digital currencies, I’m talking about the same thing. After all, the wallet mechanism will be the same for any cryptocurrency!

In short, the main function of the wallet is:

Create one or more public addresses;
Crypto storage;
Send and receive cryptocurrencies by combining and using a private key with a public key (wallet address).

In other words, the cryptocurrency wallet automates the complex cryptography of Bitcoin and other altcoins, for you! That is, it facilitates the use of Blockchain, transforming the computer language into something that humans can understand.

In this tutorial on Coinomi, I explain step by step how to create the wallet, receive crypto, store and send them. So you will see in practice everything I just said here. I even think it should be a text to read along with this one, lol

What is a Hierarchical Deterministic wallet?

Well, let’s agree that having to write down that huge alphanumeric address for your private key is a pain, right? A little letter, an “A” that you miss there… you’re lost! The code must be IDENTICAL!

Also, what if you don’t want to write down the private key but rather memorize it? Think about it, then no one can steal you!

What is the cryptocurrency wallet seed?

As Bitcoin wallets evolved, HD (hierarchical deterministic) wallets were created. HD wallets turn the private key into a string of words. This sequence of words is known as “seed”. Which is just a mnemonic phrase.

“Mne… what?!”

Mnemonic! It is a phrase created with a set of memorization techniques. Exactly to make it easier for you to remember! This seed (wallet seed) is a series of common words that you can memorize instead of the confidential, long and confusing alphanumeric key.

If you’ve tried to create a wallet, you’ve certainly noticed that you’re always asked to save at least 12 random words.

Hierarchical Deterministic cryptocurrency wallet addresses

An HD wallet can create many public addresses in the same seed. So even if you have 10 public addresses, all Bitcoins will be within the same private key.

In particular, I love being able to do this division within the portfolio. For example, I create an address where I only store cryptocurrencies that I receive for payment from my customers. At another address, I place virtual currencies that I am doing HODL (I explain this term in this text). In another portfolio, I leave the crypts that will be destined for some project and so on.

Ultimately, all cryptocurrencies are within the same wallet. Just use my seed to open it.

No entanto, para que você entenda direitinho como funciona a Coinomi Wallet, você precisa entender primeiro “Wallet de criptomoedas: o que é, pra que serve e como usar?“.

Coinomi: carteira de Bitcoins e criptomoedas

A Coinomi Wallet é uma carteira multimoeda, ou seja, possibilita o armazenamento de diversas criptomoedas diferentes no mesmo aplicativo. Pode ser usada na versão desktop ou via smartphone, seja ele para funcionar como uma carteira para Android ou para guardar suas criptomoedas no iPhone (iOS).

Como vimos no texto sobre as wallets, cada Blockchain possui sua criptomoeda. Consequentemente, cada moeda virtual deve ser armazenada em sua respectiva Blockchain e por isso, tem que existir uma carteira para cada cripto.

Desta forma, as primeiras wallets de criptomoedas só comportavam um tipo de cripto ativo. Portanto, se você tivesse Bitcoin, Ethereum e Litecoin, teria que ter 3 carteiras difentes, uma para cada moeda.

Assim começaram a surgir as wallets multimoeda: um único aplicativo onde você pode armazenar mais de uma carteira ao mesmo tempo. Também é conhecido como “multicarteira” devido a esta possibilidade.

Existem carteiras onde você só armazena Ethereum e os tokens de sua rede. Assim como há wallets onde é possível armazenar só as criptomoedas mais conhecidas. Basta analisar seu portfólio cripto e ver qual carteira é mais compatível.

Como criar uma carteira na Coinomi

Depois de ter feito o download da carteira de criptomoedas no seu dispositivo (seja mobile ou desktop), você vai criar uma wallet.

Aqui para o nosso tutorial completo e passo a passo, eu vou dar o exemplo da Coinomi mobile. Mas se você estiver no desktop, o processo deve ser bem parecido, ok?

Como criar um endereço Bitcoin rápido

1) Clique na opção “Fast wallet creation”;

2) Selecione quais criptomoedas você deseja armazenar na carteira (depois você consegue adicionar mais). Para nosso exemplo, vou selecionar o Bitcoin.

É preciso selecionar a criptomoeda para criar uma carteira na Coinomi

3) Clica no botãozinho ” + ” no canto inferior da tela. Pronto, a carteira vai aparecer na Coinomi, obviamente, com o saldo zerado.

4) Nesta modalidade de criação de carteira, você precisa salvar esta wallet. Por isso, vai ficar aparecendo uma mensagem azul: “Carteira não salva. Toque para iniciar”. Clica ali.

5) Uma pop-up vai aparecer, perguntando se você quer que sua frase de recuperação seja exibida. Clique em “OK”.

6) Aqui é onde entra aquele negócio que eu falei sobre as carteiras HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) neste texto. Ou seja, a sua chave privada, ao invés de um monte de código alfanumérico, se torna uma frase de palavras aleatórias. E essas palavras aleatórias são sua seed. Anote a seed em um local seguro e offline.

7) Depois de escrever a seed em um papel, marque a caixinha assegurando de que você guardou a frase em local seguro. Clique em “próximo”.

8) Agora, para certificar de que você anotou a frase corretamente, você deverá digitá-la na tela da Coinomi wallet.

Encriptação da Carteira

9) Após reescrever a sua seed na Coinomi, vai ser a vez de configurar a encriptação da carteira. Ou seja, uma das formas de protegê-la ainda mais. As opções são proteger menos (least secure) ou mais (most secure). É só arrastar a barrinha pra qual das opções você prefere.

Se você arrastar a barrinha mais para a esquerda (Least secure), terá 2 opções. Se arrastar para a direita, deixando a bolinha azul mais perto da frase (Most secure), vai ter duas opções para deixar a carteira de Bitcoins ou altcoins, mais segura.

Escolha a encriptação da carteira Coinomi. Mais segura ou menos segura. Barrinha de arrastar — Neste print, temos o exemplo de encriptação máxima da carteira, ou seja, o mais segura possível.

Least secure

Haverão duas etapas para segurança baixa. A mais baixa de todas é onde as carteiras são encriptadas, mas não requer autenticação. Ou seja, quando você for fazer uma retirada ou transferência de criptomoedas, nenhum tipo de autenticação será requerido (por exemplo, uma senha).

A outra opção, ainda de segurança baixa, é registrar sua digital. Desta forma, antes de alguma transação ser feita, será solicitada a autenticação pela sua biometria. Isto é: a Coinomi quer saber se você é mesmo você para liberar sua transação. Consequentemente, se alguém roubar seu celular, não vai conseguir transferir suas moedas virtuais sem sua digital.

Most secure

Agora são as opções que começam a deixar sua Wallet Coinomi mais segura.

No primeiro caso, você pode escolher deixar a autenticação das transações por senha. Escolha uma senha forte, com letras maiúsculas e minúsculas, caracteres especiais e números. Você vai ter que digitar essa senha todas as vezes que for usar a Coinomi.

É melhor escolher a opção de maior segurança na wallet: most secure

Se você colocar a bolinha azul até o fim, vai selecionar a opção mais segura de todas: autenticação por senha + biometria. Que é na verdade a que eu recomendo! Só que pra falar a verdade, enche o saco ter que ficar colocando senha e biometria toda vez que for usar a carteira, eu sei! No entanto, é melhor ter esse trabalho do que perder seus cripto ativos né?

Pronto! Carteira criada!

Criar carteira Coinomi com opções avançadas

Você acabou de aprender a criar uma carteira de criptomoedas de forma simplificada. Mas também dá para criar com opções avançadas.

1) Lá na primeira tela da Coinomi (a tela de boas vindas), você pode selecionar a opção “ADVANCED WALLET CREATION”.

2) A próxima tela será a frase de segurança. Repita os passos 6, 7 e 8 que ensinei no tópico “Criar uma carteira rápido”. A diferença é que haverá uma opção para usar “configurações avançadas”. Isso habilitará a opção de usar BIP39 (que explico no próximo tópico).

3) Faça a etapa da “Encriptação da Carteira” que eu expliquei no passo a passo acima.

O que é BIP39?

Em suma, esse BIP39 é como se fosse uma segunda seed. Então você tem lá a seed da Coinomi de 24 palavras que é gerada automaticamente. E pode escolher criar uma segunda semente, com as palavras que você quiser.

Desta forma, sempre que você for restaurar sua carteira Coinomi em outro dispositivo, terá que escrever também sua BIP39. Falarei mais tarde sobre o BIP em outro post explicando mais sobre sua tecnologia e segurança.

Como saber meu endereço Bitcoin?

Agora que você já sabe como criar uma carteira de Bitcoin e altcoins, vamos ver como saber qual o endereço da wallet.

1) A tela inicial vai ser parecida com essa aqui do lado, só que se você tiver acabado de criá-la, ainda estará com o saldo zerado.

2) Clique na moeda que você quer exibir o endereço.

3) Uma nova tela vai aparecer, veja que na barrinha superior, haverão 3 abas: receber, saldo e enviar.

4) Vá até a aba “Receber”. Um QR code será exibido na tela, junto com um código alfanumérico, mais ou menos assim:

5) Esse endereço que está sendo exibido é o endereço da sua carteira na Blockchain da moeda selecionada. No entanto, fique ligado com o primeiro algarismo da carteira de Bitcoin: algumas transferências só são feitas para carteiras que começam com 1 ou 3. Por isso, se você clicar ali em “Compatibility” ou “Legacy”, outros endereços de carteira vão aparecer com o começo sendo o número 1 ou 3. Mas isso, para a carteira de Bitcoins!

Como receber Criptomoedas na Coinomi?

Agora que você já sabe como ver o seu endereço de criptomoedas na Coinomi, fica bem simples de receber seus cripto ativos.

1) Se você for receber de alguém, basta compartilhar seu endereço (que é sua chave pública), com quem for te transferir.

2) Se você for transferir da sua conta na exchange (usem a NovaDAX) para guardar suas altcoins na carteira, então é só digitar seu endereço (ou escanear o QR Code) na exchange e fazer o saque.

Como enviar moedas digitais para outra carteira?

1) Na página inicial, onde suas moedas são exibidas, clique na moeda que deseja enviar.

2) Na barrinha azul superior, clique em “Enviar”. Aqui no nosso exemplo estamos usando o Bitcoin, ok?

3) No campo “To”, você deve digitar o endereço para quem ou para qual endereço está enviando. Você também tem a opção de scanear o QR Code da carteira para onde está enviando, pra facilitar.

4) A partir daí, é só colocar a quantidade de Bitcoins (ou a outra criptomoeda que você tiver escolhido) e enviar. O valor será convertido para a moeda fiat que você escolher em “Configurações” da Coinomi. Na imagem acima, por exemplo, o valor está sendo convertido para Dólar. Mas você pode mudar para Real.

Recuperar carteira de criptomoedas

Tá, agora vem a grande questão: “como recuperar minha wallet de Bitcoins? Dá para restaurar minha carteira da Coinomi?“.

Se você teve que formatar o celular, tablet ou notebook. Ou se você teve seu celular roubado, deixou cair na privada ou ainda, foi jogado de roupa e tudo na piscina com o celular. O que quer que tenha acontecido que você perdeu sua carteira. Bom, temos duas opções:

Opção 1: Recuperar a carteira com a seed (semente)

Se você anotou sua seed bonitinho que nem eu falei, se você manteve em segredinho em local seguro, então tá fácil:

1) Baixe novamente a Coinomi em algum dispositivo;

2) Na página inicial, clique em “Restore A Wallet”, ou “Restaurar uma carteira”;

3) Insira as palavras da sua seed (semente). Caso você tenha criado a sua carteira usando BIP39, então selecione a caixinha “Opções avançadas” e coloque sua seed BIP39;

4) Só esperar alguns minutos até a restauração e sincronização com a Blockchain. Fim, só isso mesmo!

Opção 2: Recuperar carteira de criptomoeda sem usar a seed

Se você achou que não tinha como recuperar a carteira sem sua chave privada… Então parabéns! Você acertou!

However, in order for you to fully understand how Coinomi Wallet works, you must first understand “Cryptocurrency wallet: what is it, what is it for and how to use it?“.

Coinomi: Bitcoin and cryptocurrency wallet

Coinomi Wallet is a multi-currency wallet, that is, it allows the storage of several different cryptocurrencies in the same application. It can be used in the desktop version or via smartphone, be it for Android or to store your cryptocurrencies on the iPhone (iOS) too.

As we saw in the text about wallets, each Blockchain has its cryptocurrency. Consequently, each virtual currency must be stored in its respective Blockchain and therefore, there must be a wallet for each crypto.

In this way, the first cryptocurrency wallets only contained one type of active cryptography. So if you had Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin, you would need to have 3 different wallets, one for each currency.

This is how multi-currency wallets started to appear: a single application where you can store more than one wallet at the same time. It is also known as “multi-wallet” because of this possibility.

There are wallets where you can only store Ethereum and its tokens. Just as there are wallets where you can store only the most popular cryptocurrencies. Just analyze your crypto portfolio and see which app is most compatible with.

Today I’m going to introduce Coinomi. Because in addition to being the wallet I already use to store my Bitcoins and altcoins, it is possible to use it for a wide variety of crypto assets.

Download Coinomi

To download the Coinomi wallet to store your Bitcoins and cryptocurrencies, just go to your phone’s app store or through the links below. Remembering that in addition to the smartphone, Coinomi is compatible on Windows, macOS and Linux desktops.

How to creat an Bitcoin adress in Coinomi

Once you have downloaded the cryptocurrency wallet on your device (whether mobile or desktop), you will create a wallet.

Here for our complete step by step, I will give the example of Coinomi mobile. But if you’re on the desktop, the process should be very similar, okay?

How to create a Bitcoin address fast

1) Click on the “Fast wallet creation” option;

2) Select which cryptocurrencies you want to store in your wallet (later, you can add more). For our example, I will select Bitcoin.

3) Click on the “+” button at the bottom of the screen. There, the wallet will appear at Coinomi, obviously, with no balance.

4) In this type of adress creation, you need to save this wallet. Therefore, a blue message will appear: “Wallet not saved. Tap to start”. Click there.

5) A pop-up will appear, asking if you want your recovery phrase to be displayed. Click “OK”.

6) Here, we have that thing I talked about HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) wallets. That is, your private key, instead of a lot of alphanumeric code, becomes a phrase of random words. And these random words are your seed. Record the seed in a safe and offline location.

7) After writing the seed on paper, check the box making sure that you keep the phrase in a safe place. Click “next”.

8) Now, to make sure that you wrote the sentence correctly, you must type it on the Coinomi wallet screen.

Wallet encryption

9) After rewriting your seed at Coinomi, it will be time to configure the wallet encryption. That is, one of the ways to protect it even more. The options are to protect less (least secure) or more (most secure). Just drag the bar to which of the options you prefer.

If you drag the bar further to the left (Least secure), you have 2 options. If you drag to the right, leaving the blue ball closer to the phrase (Most secure), you will have two options to make the Bitcoins or altcoins wallet more secure.

Least secure

There will be two steps for low security. The lowest of all is where the wallets are encrypted, but it does not require authentication. That is, when you are making a withdrawal or transfer of cryptocurrencies, no type of authentication will be required (for example, a password).

The other option, still low security, is to register your fingerprint. This way, before any transaction is made, you will be asked to authenticate by your biometrics. That is: Coinomi wants to know if you are really you to release your transaction. Consequently, if someone steals your cell phone, the thief will not be able to transfer your virtual coins without your fingerprint.

Most secure

Now we have the options that start to make your Coinomi Wallet more secure.

In the first case, you can choose to leave transaction authentication by password. Choose a strong password, with uppercase and lowercase letters, special characters and numbers. You will have to enter this password every time you use Coinomi.

If you put the blue ball to the end, you will select the safest option of all: password authentication + biometrics. Which is actually what I recommend! But to tell you the truth, it sucks to have to keep putting a password and biometrics every time you use your wallet, I know! However, it is better to have this job than to lose your crypto assets, right?

Done! Wallet created!

Create Coinomi wallet with advanced options

You just learned how to create a cryptocurrency wallet in a simplified way. But you can also create with advanced options.

1) There on the first Coinomi screen (the welcome screen), you can select the option “ADVANCED WALLET CREATION”.

2) The next screen will be the security phrase. Repeat steps 6, 7 and 8 that I taught in the topic “How to create a Bitcoin address fast”. The difference is that there will be an option to use “advanced settings”. This will enable the option to use BIP39 (which I explain in the next topic).

3) Do the “Wallet Encryption” step that I explained above.

What is BIP39?

In short, this BIP39 is like a second seed. Then you have the 24-word Coinomi seed that is automatically generated. And you can choose to create a second seed, with the words you want.

This way, whenever you are going to restore your Coinomi wallet on another device, you will also have to write your BIP39. I will talk later about BIP in another post explaining more about its technology and security.

How to know my Bitcoin adress?

Now that you know how to create a Bitcoin and altcoins wallet, let’s see how to know the wallet’s address.

1) The initial screen will look like the one on the side, but if you have just created it, it will still have no balance.

2) Click on the currency you want to know the address.

3) A new screen will appear, see that in the top bar, there will be 3 tabs: receive, balance and send.

4) Go to the “Receive” tab. A QR code will be displayed on the screen, along with an alphanumeric code, something like this:

5) This address being displayed is the address of your wallet on the Blockchain of the selected currency. However, stay tuned to the first digit of the Bitcoin wallet: some transfers are only made to wallets that start with 1 or 3. So if you click on “Compatibility” or “Legacy”, other wallet addresses will appear with the beginning being number 1 or 3. But that, for the Bitcoin wallet!

How to receive Cryptocurrencies at Coinomi?

Now that you know how to see your cryptocurrency address on Coinomi, it is very simple to receive your crypto assets.

1) If you are going to receive from someone, just share your address (which is your public key), with whoever will transfer you.

2) If you are transferring from your exchange account (use Binance) to store your altcoins in your wallet, then just enter your address (or scan the QR Code) on the exchange and make the withdrawal.

How to send digital currencies to another wallet?

1) On the home page, where your coins are displayed, click on the currency you want to send.

2) In the upper blue bar, click “Send”. Here in our example we are using Bitcoin, ok?

3) In the “To” field, you must enter the address to whom or to which address you are sending. You also have the option to scan the QR Code of the wallet where you are sending it, to make it easier.

4) From there, just put the amount of Bitcoins (or the other cryptocurrency you have chosen) and send. The amount will be converted to the fiat currency you choose in Coinomi’s “Settings”. In the image above, for example, the amount is being converted to Dollar.

Recover cryptocurrency wallet

Ok, now comes the big question: “How do I recover my Bitcoin wallet? Can I restore my Coinomi wallet?“

If you had to format your phone, tablet or notebook. Either if you had your cell phone stolen, dropped it in the toilet, or were thrown with clothes and everything in the pool with your smartphone in your pocket. Whatever happened, you lost your wallet! Well, we have two options:

Option 1: Recover the wallet with the seed

If you wrote down your cute seed like I said, if you kept it a secret in a safe place, then it’s easy:

1) Download Coinomi again on any device;

2) On the home page, click on “Restore A Wallet”;

3) Insert your seed. If you created your wallet using BIP39, then select the “Advanced options” box and place your BIP39 seed;

4) Just wait a few minutes until the restoration and synchronization with the Blockchain. End, that’s it!

Option 2: Recover cryptocurrency wallet without using the seed

If you thought you couldn’t recover your wallet without your private key … So congratulations! You’re right!

I’ve been saying this for a thousand years on this site, on social media, in the Telegram group, in the previous post about virtual currency wallets and since the beginning of this text! THEN, ALWAYS WRITE YOUR SEED IN A SAFE AND OFFLINE LOCATION!

Okay, now that I’ve freaked out because there are people who insist on losing the seed of the altcoin wallet, it’s worth remembering that there are several configurations that you can make at Coinomi. But the functioning of this portfolio is basically that.
